What JobNearby knows about you: as little as possible.

This notice describes the current public discovery service. It is deliberately narrow because the service is deliberately narrow. There are no candidate accounts, applications or payments. An account-free alert request is one optional email collection.

Today

What is and is not collected

No account or candidate profile

Browsing and searching never require an account. An alert stores the email address; normalized query and filters; frequency; broad place or rounded search origin and radius; consent and control times; job IDs already notified; and bounded provider delivery or failure references. It does not create a candidate profile or advertising identifier.

No tracking cookies

The current public service sets no advertising or analytics cookies. Product analytics are counted in aggregate only and cannot be traced back to a person or device.

Location stays coarse

Using your device location is optional. If you allow it, the coordinates are rounded before they reach the search, so a search cannot pinpoint your home address.

Raw postcodes are not stored

A full postcode you type is sent to the Postcodes.io lookup only to place it on the map. If you deliberately subscribe to an alert, JobNearby keeps only the rounded resolved origin needed for the radius—not the postcode text.

Job matches only—never marketing

Alert consent authorises only vacancy notifications matching your saved filters and radius. Every alert can be paused, resumed or stopped from its private emailed control; it is never used for newsletters or promotions.

Defined retention

A confirmed alert remains active for no more than 365 days unless you stop it sooner. Expired and unsubscribed alert records and their delivery ledger are deleted after 90 days.

Controller and purpose

Who controls alert data and why

Production job-alert collection remains disabled until the controller’s real identity, contact address and privacy contact are configured. JobNearby does not substitute a placeholder identity.

The lawful basis for creating and delivering an alert is your specific consent under UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a). Consent covers matched-job notifications for the filters, radius and frequency you chose. It does not cover marketing, profiling or onward sale. The confirmation step records that choice before any digest can be sent.

Who else is involved

Service providers and official sources

Map tiles and a postcode lookup are served by third parties so the map can work. Your browser contacts the map-tile provider to draw the map, and a full postcode you type is checked against the Postcodes.io service to position it. These providers may process your IP address to deliver their response; JobNearby does not receive or keep that address alongside your search.

Imported vacancies come from the Department for Education Teaching Vacancies service. When you choose to apply, you leave JobNearby for that official destination, which has its own privacy terms. JobNearby shows the destination before you go. The alert delivery adapter accepts Resend as its transactional email processor and limits messages to confirmation, matching vacancies and private controls. No claim of UK-only processing or a particular international-transfer safeguard is made while the reviewed production position is absent; alert delivery remains disabled.

Your rights

Contact and data rights

The current service holds no candidate account or application data. An alert can be paused, resumed or stopped through its private emailed controls, without creating an account. Alert consent is technically restricted to matching vacancy notifications and is never marketing consent. Withdrawing consent stops future delivery and does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Confirmed alerts expire after no more than 365 days; expired and unsubscribed records are deleted after 90 days. You can ask for access, rectification, erasure, restriction or portability where the right applies. Contact the configured privacy address above or use the contact page. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.

Before accounts launch

Stronger notices will arrive with stronger features.

Candidate accounts, Easy Apply and CV storage will each ship with a lawful-basis record, a versioned privacy notice at the point of collection, and clear retention rules. Those features are not available yet and are not presented as if they were.
