Abbey Hill Academy & College, an all-through special academy catering for children with a diverse range of needs, is seeking to appoint a dynamic and highly motivated Assistant Department Lead to join our primary team. As Assistant Department Lead, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day management and organisation of main pathway programmes within our upper primary department. You will be an excellent classroom practitioner, committed to ensuring the educational progress of all students, and will line manage and appraise identified staff. A key aspect of this role will be teaching in a KS2 Primary Class. Key Responsibilities: - Support the Assistant Principal in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the upper primary department - Take specific responsibility and accountability for the day-to-day management and organisation of the upper primary department - Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the upper primary classes - Support the development and delivery of a high-quality curriculum that is ambitious and meets the needs of all learners - Effectively manage resources allocated to main pathways, including staffing, budgets, and equipment (as appropriate) - Act as a reviewer with the arrangements for the appraisal of all identified staff - Identify and address the professional development needs of staff within main pathways - Plan, deliver, and assess engaging and appropriate lessons We are looking for a candidate who: - Has Qualified Teacher Status - Has recent leadership and management experience - Has teaching experience in a special school setting - Has extensive experience of working with students with SEND - Possesses effective communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships - Is committed to getting the best outcomes for all students and promoting the ethos and values of the academy Abbey Hill Academy & College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment" This position is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
